The City of Grand Terrace will host the grand opening of the Grand Terrace Dog Park on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 9 a.m. The dog park will be added to the City’s beautiful park system, which includes park gems such as Richard Rollins Park, Veterans Freedom Park, Fitness Park and Susan Petta Park. The Grand Terrace Dog Park sits atop 0.66 acres of land along the northern City-limit bluffs, offering spectacular views of the San Bernardino Valley, at 22720 Vista Grande Way.

The site of the all-new dog park was land owned by the former Redevelopment Agency. The City secured $400,000 in funding for construction of the dog park. $310,000 came from Developer Impact Fees for parks, $50,000 came from Redevelopment Bond Proceeds, and $40,000 came from Measure “I” funds. The City Council established a dog park endowment fund to support the annual maintenance cost of the park. This fund currently has a balance of $13,000. The annual maintenance cost of the park is approximately $3,000. For more information on how to donate to the Grand Terrace Dog Park Endowment Fund, visit the Grand Terrace Dog Park website, at www.grandterrace-ca.gov/dog-park.html.

The Grand Terrace Dog Park is sectioned off into small dog and large dog park areas. The small dog park area is surrounded by 340 feet of decomposed granite (DG). For those trying to get their exercise, 15.5 times around the small dog park area is equal to one mile. The large dog park area is surrounded by 570 feet of DG. Roughly 9 laps around the large dog park area is equal to one mile. Amenities of the dog park include picnic tables, benches, a drinking fountain, trash receptacles and pet waste bag dispensers.

The Grand Terrace Dog Park will be open 6 days per week to start (closed Wednesdays), to allow the park’s vegetation to rest and mature. Park hours will be from dawn until dusk. The City is currently looking for a Dog Park Volunteer to open and close the park. Interested residents may access the City of Grand Terrace Volunteer Application by visiting City Hall or by accessing the link below: www.tinyurl.com/gt-dog-park-volunteer.

All dogs visiting the Grand Terrace Dog Park must be licensed by their respective municipality, as well as up to date on vaccinations. All dog owners must be able to produce current licensing and vaccination records upon request by proper authorities, as well as obey all rules of the dog park. Park signage will be posted on-site to provide visitors with the rules and guidelines of the dog park. Grand Terrace Dog Park rules are also available on the web, at www.grandterrace-ca.gov/dog-park.html.

Saturday, April 14th’s grand opening will include a brief ribbon cutting ceremony, with additional activities. For ongoing event information, residents may access the Facebook Events page by visiting www.tinyurl.com/gt-dog-park-opening.
