After serving the Grand Terrace community for 12 years as a dedicated member of the City Council, Sylvia Rodriguez Robles has decided to step down from her position. Her decision to resign, although earlier than anticipated, stems from seizing an opportunity in the housing market. In an emotional announcement during the recent City Council meeting on Tuesday, March 12, Robles shared her reasons for leaving and her plans for the future.

At 71 years old, with her husband at 78, Robles felt it was the right time to sell their home, which quickly found a buyer, prompting her to resign earlier than expected in March 2024. The couple plans to relocate to San Clemente, where they hope to pursue other interests that have been on hold for some time.

Reflecting on her tenure, Robles expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve her community, stating, "I have some other things I've wanted to do all my life and put it on the back burner." Her commitment to Grand Terrace has been unwavering since she was first elected to the City Council in November 2012, and her term was set to expire later this year.

Robles' departure has not gone unnoticed by her colleagues and constituents. Kenneth Henderson, a Grand Terrace City Council member, described her as a "wonderful woman, committed, a significant activist, very supportive of family and the community." His sentiments were echoed by Jeff Allen, who expressed respect and gratitude for Robles' guidance and leadership throughout the years.

Mayor Pro Tempore Doug Wilson commended Robles for her capacity and knowledge in running the city, emphasizing her invaluable contributions. "It always pays off for the city to have a person with your capacity and your knowledge be a part of running the city, and you will be missed," Wilson stated, underscoring the impact of Robles' presence on the council.

Mayor Bill Hussey also shared words of admiration for Robles, highlighting her expertise in budget matters and her willingness to roll up her sleeves and tackle challenges head-on. "Sylvia would always roll up her sleeves and get it done," Hussey remarked, emphasizing her dedication to serving the community.

As Robles embarks on this new chapter in her life, the Grand Terrace community bids her farewell with heartfelt appreciation for her years of service and dedication. Her legacy as a tireless advocate for the city will endure, and her contributions will be remembered fondly by all those whose lives she touched during her time on the City Council.
