Voice of the People:Royal Ave

Your Dec 21 edition had "Merry Christmas" across the front page.  Then I opened the paper to find 2 letters from Scrooge blaming the high school band for ruining their lives.  I was a band mother for several years.  I know if a band is playing outside it is because they are either practicing for a football half-time show or for a competitive street parade march.  Neither of which can be practiced indoors.  Each of these performances requires hours of practice and concentration to perfect the precision of being where you are supposed to be and playing memorized music while on the move.   It all looks so easy when you watch the bands in the Rose Parade but believe me, it's not easy!  These students are to be commended for dedicating their time and talents to perform as one unit.

Anyway, anybody who chooses to buy a home in the same neighborhood as the high school is located should have known it would not be a quiet neighborhood with trains passing through every few minutes.  Those train tracks were there long before any homes on Royal Ave or the high school were built.  Those trains run night and day every day.  I didn't see any complaint about that.
