In the second game of the 2013 season, the Grand Terrace High School (GTHS) Titans put on a battle against their opponents, the Arroyo Valley Hawks. GTHS led throughout most of the game, with the Hawks taking their first and only lead in the fourth quarter, but with a defensive hold within the final two minutes and a final touchdown to seal their victory, the Titans came away with a 37–28 win over the Hawks in a non-league game played at Titan Stadium last Friday evening. On Thursday, JV left the field with a score of Grand Terrace Titans 44, Arroyo Valley Hawks 0. The Varsity Titans currently stand at 2–0 overall. The game was close all night with the Titans leading up until the final quarter. The Hawks scored a go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter to make Titans fans nervous. The Titans would respond and score to take a 1-point lead with little over two minutes to play. With a strong defensive series to stop the Hawks from regaining the lead and a final touchdown to secure their win, Grand Terrace walked away with their second consecutive victory. Leading the way for the Titans was senior running back Cruz Duke (#21) with 254 rushing yards on 28 carries with three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving); senior quarterback Ralph Mohammed (#2) at 151 yards passing with two passing touchdowns; junior tight end Antonio Torres (#80), who had 71 yards receiving with one receiving touchdown and sophomore running back Devon Dixon (#26), who had 82 yards rushing with one rushing touchdown. In a pregame ceremony, the Grand Terrace Football Boosters also hosted the first Honor Veterans Night. The event was led by the Military Honor Detail from Riverside National Cemetery, and 39 local veterans were honored and introduced to the crowd. Grand Terrace High School football players and coaches, along with Arroyo Valley football players and coaches, came out to shake the hands and thank the veterans for their service while “God Bless the USA” played. The Titans will continue the 2013 season on the road, visiting Jurupa Hills High School this Friday, Sept. 20.
