Woman's Club Decorates Tree to be Raffled Off for Holidays

For several years the Grand Terrace Woman's Club has been displaying and raffling off a fully decorated Christmas tree to one lucky winner, and just before the Thanksgiving holiday last week, members of the group gathered at Innovations Hair Salon, located in a small shopping center on Barton Road, to decorate the seven-and-a-half-foot tree. Decked in red and gold bows, ornaments and white lights, the tree this year keeps with the "rubies and gold" theme. "We've been doing this for a lot of years and we rely on our members for donations," explained the club's president, Wendy Curran. "This year we didn't have to expend any funds for the tree. Everything is donated and that's on the generosity of our members." In an added touch this year, the skirt surrounding the tree was sewn and donated by a Women's Club member, Curran shared. Christmas Tree Chair Yolanda Navarro, a Women's Club member and a stylist at Innovations Hair Salon, was able to purchase all new decorations for the tree this year. "Innovations has really worked with us and we're grateful they've allowed us to put our tree there so everyone can see it," Curran said. Five Women's Club members volunteered last week to decorate the tree. The winner of the tree will be picked from a raffle during the Grand Terrace Woman's Club Winter Luncheon, held at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 18 at the Hilton Hotel in San Bernardino. Other raffle winners will also be chosen to receive gifts donated from nearby and local businesses, said the club's publicity chair, Debbie Earle. Decorated trees have been displayed at various Grand Terrace locales in the nearly three decades since the tradition began, explained Earle, including Baskets Ahh.. La Cart and Innovations Hair Salon, where it has been displayed for the last two years. Grand Terrace Women's Club members and Innovations Hair Salon employees all carry raffle tickets, which community members may purchase for $1 apiece to enter into the drawing to win the decorated Christmas tree and other raffle prizes. Tickets are also being sold through the morning of Dec. 18, the day of the drawing, at Baskets Ahh.. La Cart, right next door to Innovations Hair Salon. Curran estimated that last year the group was able to sell some $1,500 worth of raffle tickets; this year, she shared that the club is looking to sell at least that much, if not more — and for a good cause. "Everything we make on the tree goes directly to our Child Help fund," explained Curran. "This is one of our annual 'always' projects, and we are very grateful that the community has been so good about supporting this." Contact Grand Terrace Woman's Club members to purchase raffle tickets, or purchase them at Innovations Hair Salon or at Baskets Ahh.. La Cart. To take a look at the tree, visit Innovations during normal business hours in the shopping center located at 22400 Barton Rd.
